Teen Dinner and Movie Night – Saturday, February 11

Meet at the church building at 6:00 for a dinner and a movie, Beware of Christians, about what it means to follow Jesus in 2012. This film follows four college students, tired of going through the motions, who leave their routine Christian lives in the U.S. in a quest to find what it really means to be a follower of Jesus in today’s world. Bring $3 to help with food & drinks. Pick up time will be 8:30 at the building.

Leeland at Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside – Sunday, February 19

This promises to be an amazing evening of worship and it’s free. We’ll meet at the church building at 4:00 and head over to Riverside for the 5:00 Sunday night service at Harvest where Leeland will be leading worship. We should be back at the building no later than 7:30.

Teens: please plan on arriving at the building at 4:30 if you can to help set up.

5:00 Dinner will be served and all money will go towards our upcoming Winter Retreat.

6:00 The film ‘Couragous’ will be shown for free (though any donations will also go towards the Winter retreat.)

8:00 Movie is over. Go home and come back in the morning for worship!

Parking Lot Fund update – 1/29

The contractors were not able to work on the parking lot last week due to the rain last Monday. They need a full five days for the work and drying time. Should be good weather this week…so, please do not come to the building this week, the parking lot will be closed …really!

Holiday Candle Lighting Remembrance Ceremony

Ceremony…It’s become one of our most beloved Christmas traditions – the candle lighting remembrance ceremony on the first Sunday in December. A time to remember and honor the memory of loved ones who have passed away, especially those in the last twelve months. If you have a family member or friend you would like to honor, please write their name(s) on your membership card.

We need all of the names by next Sunday, November 27…

November Fund-raiser Lunch and Craft Sale

A few of our crafty ladies will have a Craft Sale during the fundraiser lunch next Sunday, November 27. You can pick up some cute holiday gifts and/or stocking stuffers. Plan to have lunch and bring a few extra dollars to shop for the holidays…(You will probably be tired of leftover Turkey, so I think Carol is planning to serve Hot Dogs.)

City of Children Mission Trip Planned for July 2012

We are coming Adriana! … It’s nice to hear she’s looking forward to another visit, because we already have the dates for next year’s Mission Trip to the City of Children. Mark your calendar for July 21-27. Questions, see Paul Teeter or Jeff Partain.

(Jeff Partain and Paul Teeter will be attending the annual City of Children Leader’s Meeting, January 27-29, to plan the summer trip.)

Goodwill for our parking lot

Our parking lots are in need of repair. We need to raise half of the funds for repair. One way we are going to raise money is by partnering with Goodwill and their “Fill a Truck” donation program. More details later, but circle Sunday, November 20, as the day to fill a truck (or two).

Soul Surfer /sohl serf-er/ – noun; 1. A term coined in the 1970s, used to describe a talented surfer who surfs for the sheer pleasure of it. Although they may still enter competitions, a Soul Surfer’s motives go beyond winning.

Bethany has become a source of inspiration to millions through her story of determination, faith and hope. Born into a family of surfers on February 8, 1990, Bethany jumped on the board at a young age. Bethany entered her first surf competition—winning both the short and long board divisions at age eight. On Halloween morning 2003, Bethany was attacked by a 14-foot tiger shark, which bit off her left arm and seemed to end her career as a rising surf star. After losing more than 60% of her blood and undergoing several surgeries, Bethany began her recovery with an unbelievably positive attitude. Miraculously, just one month after the attack, Bethany returned to the water. Two months later, Bethany placed fifth in the Open Women’s division surf competition and just over a year after the attack she won her first National Title. In 2007, Bethany realized her dream and turned pro. Bethany has since participated in numerous Association of Surfing Professionals and World Tour Events with her major highlight being a second place finish in the ASP 2009 World Junior Championships. “It has been an incredible journey for me and now, I’m just so excited to share it!” says Bethany.

“Bethany’s story is so powerful,” says Soul SurferDirector Sean McNamara. “Most people would have given up after what happened to her, but not only did she make an amazing return to surfing, she excelled at it, and has turned her life into an inspiration for people all around the world. She is someone you look at and think, ‘If she can do all the incredible things she’s done, I can set the world on fire, too.’” says Sean.
