Honoring Our History
The first assembly of the Redlands Church of Christ was held on July 6, 1941 at 17 E. Central Avenue. There were 41 people present on that first Sunday. Twelve years later, thanks to the vision of the elders, a parcel of land located on the corner of Roosevelt Road and Highland Avenue was purchased for the ‘future’ building site … Planned and built on faith, the new building was completed in 1962.
In 1972, the “Joy Bus” ministry was born. It was an idea conceived by one of the members to bring children from the community to Bible School on buses. Big yellow buses rolled through the neighborhoods bringing dozens of children to Sunday School, introducing a generation to the good news that ‘Jesus Loves Me!’ Churches of Christ throughout California, as well as other parts of the United States, adopted the program first initiated here at the Redlands Church of Christ.
Still Relevant Today
Today, as families from every corner of the globe settle in our neighborhoods, we have greater opportunities than ever to share the Good News that Jesus loves me. Now, instead of Joy Buses, we have FRIENDSpeak, a ministry to help others with their conversational English, using the Word of God - in particular the gospel of Luke.
We have a great heritage, and the vision continues for a church which honors its history while seeking to be relevant today… making the gospel real in our community … so they will know - Yes, Jesus Loves Me!
